Jenny Smy - oil painting
Jenny's career as an artist, is just beginning. Having joined a local art group some 20 odd years ago, she learned from others how to use the various media to portray what she sees and feels. Some years ago she was selected as a full member of the Westward Ho and Bideford Art Society, which has many professional artists among its membership. Their exhibitions brought in requests from local galleries to submit work for sale. Since then she has exhibited many times, mainly locally but also in other parts of Devon. In 2003 she was selected, with two other artists, to exhibit at the first North Devon Art Show. She has also taken part in the 9 Days of Art project in conjunction with Beaford Arts. Her work has been published in local papers and magazines including Devon Life and she also has begun to sell work via the internet - very exciting!

She likes colour, space and thick paint although she is only beginning to create more impasto work. She is happy to use brushes knives or fingers to move the paint around and generally works with oils. She used to work in pastels and still does on some occasions again using fingers and hands to work and blend the colours. It is useful to have instant colour on hand in both strong and subtle tones when out sketching but most of her work is done in the studio. Space is at a premium in the studio and therefore the work is not huge but it is getting bigger.
Jenny was taking part in the Open Studios Event during the last three weekends in June. North Devon Festival
A further event was "ROCK, PAPER, SCISSORS"
Final Year Show, Foundation Degree Arts
at the Goodwin Gallery, Petroc School of Art.
